- Stretch garments requiring a lightweight lining
Why Use Swimsuit Lining?
Adding a lining to your handmade swimwear can provide additional coverage and create a cleaner interior finish. A stretch lining is particularly important for swimwear because it allows the lining to move with the outer fabric without restricting the garment's stretch.
Sewing Recommendations
For best results, use a stretch or ballpoint needle and a stretch-compatible stitch or serger. Avoid stretching the fabric while sewing to help maintain its original shape.
Care Instructions
Hand wash in cold water. Dry flat.
We recommend pre-washing your fabric the same way you intend to wash your finished garment.

Swimsuit Lining Fabric FAQ
What fabric is used to line swimsuits?
A lightweight 4-way stretch lining is commonly used to line swimsuits and bikinis. The lining should stretch with the main swimwear fabric so it does not restrict the fit or movement of the finished garment.
Do I need to line a swimsuit?
Not every swimsuit needs to be fully lined, but adding a swimsuit lining can provide additional coverage and create a cleaner interior finish. Some sewing patterns call for full lining, while others require lining only in specific areas.
Can I use this fabric to line a bikini?
Yes. This 4-way stretch swimsuit lining can be used for bikini tops, bikini bottoms, one-piece swimsuits and other swimwear projects.
What is the difference between swimsuit fabric and swimsuit lining?
Swimsuit fabric is generally used as the outer fabric of the garment, while swimsuit lining is worn underneath it. A stretch lining provides an additional layer of coverage while allowing the finished swimsuit to retain its stretch and flexibility.
Does swimsuit lining need to stretch?
Yes. For stretch swimwear, the lining should have sufficient stretch to move comfortably with the outer fabric. This swimsuit lining has 4-way stretch, making it suitable for close-fitting swimwear.
How much swimsuit lining do I need?
The amount of lining required depends on the style, size and whether the swimsuit is fully or partially lined. Always check the fabric requirements included with your sewing pattern before ordering.
