    Product Description

This premium 100% wool batting is a thick, high-loft insulation layer designed to provide maximum warmth and structure inside garments.

With a substantial 5 mm thickness, this batting creates a padded, structured effect, making it ideal for cold-weather outerwear where insulation is the priority.

Due to its density and loft, this material will add noticeable volume and weight to your project. It is not suitable for lightweight garments and may require more advanced sewing techniques.

The batting features a stabilizing backing on one side, helping reduce shifting during cutting and assembly.

    Why You’ll Love It

    • 100% natural wool insulation
    • High warmth retention for cold climates
    • Creates a padded, structured look
    • Breathable and moisture-regulating
    • Backing for easier handling

    Important to Know

    • This is a thick and heavy insulation — it will significantly increase garment volume
    • Best suited for structured outerwear, not fitted or lightweight pieces
    • Requires stronger needles and proper equipment for sewing
    • May be bulky at seams and edges

    Ideal For Sewing

    • Winter coats
    • Insulated jackets
    • Heavy-duty vests
    • Quilted outerwear
    • Outdoor gear

    Sewing Tips

    • Use a walking foot or industrial machine if possible
    • Choose a heavy-duty needle size 110/18 minimum
    • Grade or trim seam allowances to reduce bulk
    • Quilt or tack to control thickness
    • Sew slowly to maintain control over layers
    • Avoid using in tight or detailed areas

This material is thick — a standard domestic machine may struggle depending on your setup. Looking for something thinner? Explore our lighter insulation options (Thinsulate 100 or Thinsulate 200) for less bulk and easier sewing.

Not sure which insulation to choose? Compare warmth levels below to find the best option for your project.

    Important Notes

    • This is not a standalone fabric — it is meant to be used as an inner layer
    • Slight natural variations may occur due to wool fiber
    • Color may vary slightly depending on lighting

    Care Instructions

Dry clean recommended. Spot clean only. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Wool is naturally odor-resistant and rarely needs cleaning, making it ideal for long-lasting garments.

Due to the different color variations of each monitor and mobile device, we cannot guarantee the color will exactly match what you see online.

    Penelope R. ★★★★★

The 5mm thickness is perfect for my quilting projects—it adds warmth without making the fabric bulky. Cutting through the 221cm width was a breeze, and it handled the needle beautifully.

    Nicholas I. ★★★★★

I’ve been using this wool batting for a quilted jacket, and the 5 mm thickness gives it just enough structure without feeling stiff. The 87-inch width meant I could cut a single piece for the whole back panel.

    Christopher V. ★★★★★

The wool batting arrived neatly rolled and the 87-inch width gave me plenty of coverage for my quilt project without seam lines. At 5mm thick and 555gsm, it feels substantial yet drapes nicely without any stiffness. My only minor note is that it does shed a bit during cutting, so have a vacuum handy
