Finally found a black #5 open-end zipper that actually matches the heavy-duty look I needed. The molded plastic teeth slide smoothly on my jacket project, and it separates cleanly at the bottom.

Replacing the zipper on my favorite backpack was way less stressful than I expected since this separating #5 slides perfectly smooth right out of the package. The molded plastic teeth lock together firmly and the black finish looks just like the original, so my bag's back in rotation.
